EMS Division - Ambulance Fees

EFFECTIVE October 1, 2008 NON-TRANSPORT FEE

There will be a $50 fee for patients accepting emergency medical services on scene but refuse transportation to the hospital.

Patients are billed transportation charges by the City if they are transported to the emergency department of an area hospital.

The City of Garland has established three transport fees for citizens (resident) and three fees for non-residents. The reason for the three tiered level is to coincide with Medicare's new fee schedules.

BLS is a Basic Life Support transport. This type of transport means that the patient required no advanced medical procedures, such as an IV.  An example of a BLS transport would be a patient with a broken bone.

ALS1 means that the patient required at least one Advanced Life Support procedure such as an IV or administration of a medication.

ALS2 means that the patient required more than one Advanced Life Support procedure.

The fees are as follows:

Transport Resident Non-Resident
BLS $450 $550
ALS1 $500 $600
ALS2 $625 $725

In addition, any drugs used by the paramedics will be charged at a rate of 125% of the City's cost.

Mileage is charged at a rate of $10.00/mile from point of pick-up to the emergency room.

The following special procedures are an additional charge:

Oxygen Administration
Defibrillation
EKG Administration CPR
CPR
Intubation
Immobilization
Chest Decompression
IV Start/Monitoring
Thumper Administration
CID Administration

Effective February 19, 2008
