Criminal Investigation Division
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Garland Police Department is responsible for the detection and investigation of criminal offenses, for the collection and examination of evidence, and for the successful prosecution of crimes committed in the City of Garland.
Specific Areas of Investigation
Commonly referred to as CID, the division is comprised of both sworn and civilian personnel. These individuals are dedicated professionals trained to address specific issues that affect the lives of the citizens in our community. There are several units within CID, each of which specializes in a specific area of investigation.

Crimes Against Persons
The Crimes Against Persons Unit, commonly referred to as “CAPERS,” is an investigative unit within the department.

Crimes Against Property
Crimes committed against the owner of a property (i.e. burglary, theft, and criminal mischief) are investigated by several different units in CID.

Domestic Investigations & Sex Crimes
The Domestic Investigations and Sex Crimes Unit, commonly referred to as the DISC Unit, specializes in the investigation of domestic or family violence-related offenses, as well as all adult sexual assault offenses.

Forensic Investigations Unit
The Forensic Investigations Unit is a highly technical unit that is responsible for the professional processing of crime scenes in an attempt to document all facets of crime thereby providing a solid framework for the reconstruction of the crime.

The Specialized Crime Section is a covert investigative unit comprised of the Intelligence Unit and the Sex Offender Apprehension and Registration Unit (SOAR).
